The traditional art of woven bamboo.

Due to the harsh conditions of the hot/cold Kyoto climate, bamboo in Kyoto is especially hearty and suited to making delicate yet strong items.

In the heart of historical Kyoto starting in the 1200s, this bamboo was first used for making tea ceremony utensils and ikebana tools but soon became utilized for a wider range of products including home furniture.

However, due to its origins in the tea ceremony, the signature feature of Kyoto bamboo products is the civilized and delicate design.
