The Yuzen dyeing technique was invented about 330 years ago by Miyazaki Yuzen-sai, who longed to bring more colors and vibrant patterns to cloth. This traditional method is divided into two types: drawing freehand and outlining the pattern. The former method involves drawing a pattern with a brush, but the dyeing portion is the one that requires the most skill and time. By the latter method, anyone can learn and experience this traditional dyeing technique. Start by choosing a pattern then apply colors one at a time using several paper stencils to build up the intensity of the design. Even beginners can feel the artistic challenge and produce something uniquely beautiful and Japanese. 友禅染とは、今から約330年前に宮崎友禅斎により生み出された染色方法で、白布に鮮やかな色彩で絵柄や文様を描き出す京都の伝統的な染めの技法です。染色方法は手描き友禅と型染友禅に大きく分けられ、手描き友禅は絵を描くように筆を使って染め出す方法で、技術と時間を要するものです。従って、本施設で体験できるのは、型染友禅という技法です。 これは数種類の型紙ごとに色を使い分け、重ねて模様を作り出す技法で、初心者でもチャレンジしやすく美しく仕上がります。 |
